Typing French letters with accents

When using the computer to type up stuff in French, it's important to include the accents!

Here is a table showing you how to type the different letters with accents using a shortcut.  It is only useful on PC computers, not Apple. ( I have an Apple and simply switch my computer's language which is great except that you then have to get used to using the French keyboard.)
Since our computers at school are all PCs, this shortcut list will be helpful.

While holding down the ALT key, type the number that corresponds to the accented letter you want.

à    -    133                 À    -    0192
â    -    131                 Â    -    0194
ç    -    135                 ç (upper case)   -   128
é    -    130                 É    -    144
è    -    138                 È    -     0200
ê    -    136                 Ê    -    0202
î     -    140                 Î     -    0206

Pourquoi le français?

Bienvenue chers élèves,

Have you ever wondered why you have to learn French at school? Sure, you probably think it's not very useful in your life right now, but what about in the future? Learning a new language is not just about learning some new words, it's about opening the door to a different culture and a new way of thinking.  As an adult, knowing French might help you in your profession or get you a job in another country. Or, you may love to travel for pleasure.  Wouldn't it be great if you could communicate in more than one language?

I know that starting French at your age is difficult.  You already can read, write and speak in English very well and having to learn basic words and simple phrases can be frustrating. But I  promise you one thing--if you try your best, participate 100% and aren't afraid of making mistakes, YOU WILL LEARN FRENCH!

If you're still not convinced that French is a useful language to learn, consider the following:

-French is an official language in 33 countries, second only to English.

-French (and English) are the only languages spoken as a native language on 5 continents and the only languages taught in every country in the world.

-French is the second most commonly taught second language in the world (after English), making it a real possibility that speaking French will come in handy practically anywhere you travel.

-There are 128 million French speakers (as a native or adopted language) who speak it fluently and use it on a regular basis and 72 million "partiel" Francophones - Live in a francophone (French speaking) country but do not speak French regularly, due to limited knowledge.

-French is an official working language in dozens of international organizations, including the United Nations, International Olympic Committee, and International Red Cross.

-French is the second most frequently used language on the Internet.

Moi, j'aime beaucoup la langue et la culture française!
Allons-y!  Apprenons ensemble!
